Minimum marks needed to get a call for further phases of admission by the test takers are called CAT cutoff. After the result declaration of CAT 2020, IIMs will issue their cutoff individually. Shortlisted candidates would have to appear for admission procedure for 2021 to IIM based on their cutoffs. While the CAT 2020 cutoff is being determined, IIMs will consider different Minimum CAT 2020 cut-offs is projected to be 90 percentile for admission to any IIMs or any top MBA colleges in India. For the selection of candidates for entry, the 20 IIMs and other top B-schools in India set their own CAT cut off percentile. The cut-offs for admission to IIM tops like IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, IIM Calcutta, IIM Lucknow and IIM Kozhikode remain high (99 + percentile).

Factors that Determine CAT Cut-Off 

CAT cut-off percentile depends on many factors for each institution. Some of those are mentioned below. 

  • Exam difficulty level: This is one of the key reasons that will accentuate the CAT 2020 cutoff. The higher the paper difficulty level, the lower the cutoff and vice versa.
  • Number of aspirants appearing for the examination: The total number of candidates appearing for CAT 2020 would also impact the cutoff. This will have a direct impact, i.e., more test takers will result in higher cutoff, while fewer test takers would result in lower CAT cutoffs.
  • Past year cutoff trends: CAT cut-off 2020 will also depend on the cut-offs released by IIMs from the previous year. 
  • Number of seats in a given institution: The number of seats available in the respective IIMs also affects the cutoff from CAT 2020. For instance, if any IIM has limited seats, the released cutoff would be higher for selecting candidates and vice versa.
  • Institute rankings: Renowned institutes ranked in the NIRF Management Ranking 2020 are likely to set their cutoffs higher.

 Final Cut-Off of CAT 2020

  • Also known as IIM call cut offs, minimum percentile score set by the IIMs for the selection of WAT / GD-PI round candidates. 
  • Meeting the final cut off of the CAT does not mean the applicant is chosen for entry. The final cut-off is set after the CAT results are declared. 
  • No IIM, or even other top MBA institutes, formally announce the final CAT cut-offs. The final CAT cut-offs for all top IIMs remain as high as 99+ percentile, and 95+ percentile for new IIMs. 
  • The final CAT cut-offs include cut-offs for sectional and total. The final cut off for CAT is set category-wise.

CAT 2020 Planned Cut Offs

Note that the CAT cut offs remain high each year for General category students (90-100), but there is significant relaxation for reserved category students.
